Man Crush Everyday

I think we have a new model for my Eastern Mountain Sports Women's Meridian 800-Fill Down Jacket! Just kidding. #ManCrushEveryday

It was chilly this morning in Jackson and this was the only layer in Little Blue for Marc to use during our breakfast in town. He looks good in my Women's XS right??!? Just kidding!

Atmospheric Inversions Over the Tetons

Recently, Jackson Hole has been engulfed in lots of white, fluffy, thick clouds. This fog that has prevented us from seeing over hills or the peaks in the Teton Range is called an atmospheric inversion. In meteorology, an inversion is a deviation from the normal change of an atmospheric property with altitude.

The Encyclopedia Britannica explains a temperature inversion is a reversal of the normal behavior of temperature in the troposphere in which a layer of cool air at the surface is overlain by a layer of warmer air. Usually, inversions play a significant role in determining cloud formation, precipitation, and visibility.

Inversions act as a cap on the upward movement of air from the layers below, resulting in clouds that cannot grow high enough to produce showers and prevent visibility. This makes a lot of sense, because last week was really cold, and I mean really cold! When I arrived, the temperatures were ranging below 0 - I think last Thursday or Friday, it was -25 to -30 degrees out! This week, it has gotten drastically warmer - today's high should be in the 40s. So, going from one end of the spectrum to the other in such a short amount of time, has really stunted the weather around here and resulted in really low clouds.

Marc went to work at the mountain the past two days and has captured pictures of how it is really cloudy here in the valley. However, as you go up the lifts, gondola, and tram, you go higher above the cloud cover, and you are immersed in Bluebird skies! It's crazy! Enjoy some of the photos captured from the past few days! Hopefully, the sun will start shining again on this town or I might just need to spend most of my days on those high mountain sides!

Chilly Nights Calls for Down

The past few nights, I have woken up cold and literally snuggled up real close to Marc. Maybe that is what happens when his bedroom is in the basement of the apartment and his comforter is not that thick to begin with. Who knows...but anyways! I remember back in the summer when we would camp or sleep in the van, we would wake up pretty chilly. So we looked into maybe one day purchasing a blanket that we would be able to use outdoors or when we camp. We had been hearing about the down comforters that are out on the outdoor gear market and occasionally researched them for decent prices. Well, I think after realizing how cold is has been here in the Tetons, we took some drastic online shopping initiatives and finally bit the bullet and got something pretty awesome!

Big Agnes is known not just for their comfortable sleeping pads and awesome durable tents for the front and backcountry, but for their sleeping bags as well! When I get enough money, I definitely plan on getting a new bag, but that is not the point of this entry. The point of this entry is that they have these new down comforters in their stock now! And Marc and I are the proud owners of ones of them! If you want to check it out, the link is right here.

We ordered the blanket, maybe Tuesday afternoon, and the delivery box came yesterday afternoon. So the shipping transition was fairly quick! Big Agnes really does do an awesome job getting their product to their customers. The box was really small and came in a small stuff sack! Of course, the blanket is goose down, so it is able to compress really small! Great for the outdoors and transporting it in a pack or great storage. Can we note that it only weighs about 2-lbs and 12-oz!!?!?

This blanket is by far better than my electric blanket, my duvet, and I hate to say it, but my white, fuzzy Polar Bear Blanket! Sizing in at 50" x 78" x 2.5," this 600-fill goose down blanket with a synthetic lining kept us warm all night (and we did not even need to blast the heat higher than the usual low setting we have it to already). Please note that we had a bed sheet and think bed spread over us as well with the Down Comforter on top - but I just want to clarify that the original bed sheet and bed spread do not keep us really warm at night anyways.

Marc and I are really pleased with this purchase! It will not just serve warm slumbers in a cold basement but definitely for van, front, or back country camping! Pretty excited! Why did I not think of this when I moved here a year ago?!?! Thanks, Big Agnes, your products are pretty reliable and work effectively for their purposes!

A Tetons Magic Trick

Want to see a magic trick that just happened on campus?!?

Now you see the Tetons...

And Now You Don't!

Crazy, intense thunderstorm took over the valley, causing the Tetons to disappear!

It's been a cold, windy, and rainy day here on campus.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring better weather!

Stay dry,

A Chilly Day in the Tetons

First, Shout Out to My Mom!
Happy Birthday, Mom!!!!!
Wish I was there. :(
Love You!

This week, the entire cohort has been stationed on the Kelly Campus for our second and final week of Place-Based Education.  The best part about this, besides learning different place-based educational theories and methods, is that we get some great views and some time to explore around the campus.  Enjoy the photos from yesterday and today. :)

This was taken yesterday morning, a beautiful sunrise on Linda's Anniversary.
This was this morning's sunrise...extraordinarily gorgeous.
When hanging out in my 'special spot' for place-based education,
I found this next to me: evidence of beaver activity!
After class today, Mandy, Annie, and I took a 3.4 mi walk up and down Ditch Creek Road (basically from Kelly Campus to the end of the road and back).  Saw about 8 moose along the way, but the view of the Tetons was really pretty today.  So I took some photos, of course!

Alright...so since the winter season is upon us, not only is there snow, but there is ice...and well, since I am learning all things and activities that are snow related...maybe I should learn how to skate?!

So first, must try to skate with hiking boots!

Hope you enjoyed some moments from the past two days!
